Cameras are typically placed 20 to 25 feet from the target. The field-of-view increases with this distance and bullet hole resolution decreases. For example, with the 16 mm lens, a camera placed 20 feet from the target gives a 6 foot field-of-view. This would be a typical setup for 1,000 yard targets where small caliber holes can be seen. The base station can be placed immediately to the side of an un-ported barrel which allows the display to be seen while remaining in the shooting position. With muzzle brakes, especially on the .50 BMG, the base station should be kept aft of the blast cone.
The standard camera transmitters are designed for 2,500 yard "line-of-sight" range. This will diminish somewhat if heavy brush or obstacles are between the camera and base station. Optional directional antennas are available to increase the range of the standard transmitters. Systems have been tested out to 5 miles (with additional antennas required, which can be ordered through our website).

Any targets can be used. Best results come from using plain white paper or white-painted surfaces. We use rolls of white paper with 2-3" dots on them out to 1,200 yards.
Shoot-N-C® targets work fantastic.
